MUSIC IN FILM DAY

The Point – Cardiff Bay
Thursday November 15th, 2007 – 9.30am

Welsh filmmakers, composers, music publishers and record label representatives will have the chance to meet at the first ever “Music in Film Day”.

The Welsh Music Foundation and the Film agency for Wales have joined forces to arrange a “Music in Film” day on Thursday, November 15th at the The Point music venue, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff. The event will be free to participants, with places allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The morning sessions will be introduced and chaired by Ivan Chandler, Managing Director of Musicalities Ltd (www.musicalities.co.uk), who will provide an introduction to music copyright and the licensing of music for film.

Ivan will then chair a panel consisting of individuals working from all aspects of the music in film industry, where case studies and possible scenarios will be discussed from the issues arising.

The panel will consist of:

Gethin Scourfield - Film Producer (Beautiful Mistake)
Hywel Evans – Synchronisation Manager, EMI UK + Ireland
Matt Biffa – Music Supervisor, Air Edel
John Hywel Morris – MCPS / PRS Alliance
John Hardy – Music Composer

There will also be a chance to quiz the panel on various issues.

After lunch, there will be a “Speed Dating” event which will set up a series of meetings between filmmakers and record label representatives, composers and music publishers, in which they have 10 mins each meeting to introduce themselves, their work and explore potential collaborations. There will also be a chance to network over drinks towards the end of the afternoon.

The Film Agency for Wales and the Welsh Music Foundation are delighted to be co-hosting this event, which should provide salient business advice and foster productive future relationships in the Welsh music field.

The Film Agency for Wales aims to facilitate the emergence of a vibrant and sustainable Welsh film industry, both through increasing filmmaking activity in Wales and by supporting key Welsh talent – particularly writers, directors and producers - whether they are born in or resident in Wales.

Part of Welsh Music Foundation’s remit is to help maximise the income streams for stakeholders and Welsh music companies, and to increase the use of Welsh-based music in films produced in Wales. Music in Film is an important part of our ongoing series of events to promote these aims.
