WMF : The Swn Sessions

Friday 23rd October and Saturday 24th October 2009
The Toucan Club, Womanby Street, Cardiff.
Welsh Music Foundation is happy to be working with Sŵn again this year to bring some, hopefully, thought provoking and informative sessions before the gigs.
We start on the Friday with sessions held in Welsh (translation available). We’ll be looking at the ‘toolkit’ a band needs to find its audience, interact with it and get arrested by press and radio. We’ll talk to those who have done it before, asking what they consider to be best practice.
We’ll also be looking at the Welsh language industry in Wales – the good, the bad and the money – analysing the present and predicting for the future.
On the Saturday, Eleanor Ward from PRS Foundation will offer insight into the various new music schemes they fund and how they may be applicable to your venture. We’ll also look at digital marketing in detail with some tips on how you can be your own DIY digital marketing machine.
Then, we open things up a little and look at the developments in the music industry since the last Sŵn. From Twitter and Spotify to the growing live sector, our panel will discuss just how the changes have - or haven’t - affected them.
Last but not least, radio legend Steve Lamacq will be going through recent music submissions he’s received, having a play and making comments – a session which promises to be an entertaining hour, but also providing pointers for sending music to radio and press.

Commenting on who stands out and the quality, presentation and accessibility of music he's sent, the session will herald the good and take lessons from the bad, offering advice and best practice tips for getting your music noticed - from a music legend who's a true master in his class.
Steve will also be giving a sneak glimpse into the practicalities involved in putting his Radio 2 show together as he begins the planning for his next broadcast exclusively in front of the audience...
