CARDIFF’S NEWEST UNDERGROUND CLUB AND LIVE MUSIC VENUE – THE MOON – OPENING DECEMBER 2011!

Date Posted: 22nd November 2011

Cardiff’s newest independent music bar – The Full Moon opened in October to an overwhelming response. Following its initial success and the incredible feedback from the city of Cardiff, The Full Moon have announced that they will be opening a brand new music venue above the bar this December, called The Moon. Venue co owner, Steve Bines said:

‘We've been open at The Full Moon for nearly two months now, and we've had some amazing nights, with some amazing people. We've already hosted some of Cardiff's finest live acts, as well as global sensations such as Ugly Duckling, Whiskey Priest and Miles Hunt from The Wonder Stuff. Now with The Moon opening upstairs, we're going to be able to host a lot more diverse styles, and have already lined up some of our favourite bands to perform!’

The Moon has a capacity of 260 for club events and 150 for live music and will use the team’s experience of managing venues in Reading, Glasgow and Leicester along with some of Cardiff’s favourite venues including SUB29, The Globe and The Point. Venue co owner, Gwyn Thomas said:

‘The point of The Moon club for us, is to create a designated space for live music in Cardiff’s city centre with full production and both a capacity and affordability that makes it accessible to all. As we’re very keen to support the South Wales music scene as a whole we don’t have a specific programming policy and welcome all styles of artists. Our aim is to become the perfect stepping-stone to the larger venues in the city such as Clwb Ifor Bach and the University venue.’

With the prestigious Clwb Ifor Bach, Dempsey's, The Full Moon, and now The Moon club opening, Womanby Street is fast becoming Cardiff's alternative quarter, and a one stop shop for lovers of music that is slightly left of mainstream. Steve Bines said:

‘Womanby Street has already played host to Oxjam and Swn Festival this year, and with the new addition of The Moon club, there looks like exciting times ahead! It’s fantastic to watch the Castle Quarter grow and flourish, after so much investment by the local authority – I’m sure we wouldn’t be alone among the traders and residents when we say that was money well spent!’

Licensed until 3am, The Moon will be programming a few trial shows and clubnights from December onwards, with the full launch planned for January, with a month-long “Free 4 All” Festival, featuring live music every night of the month, all for free entry. Keep your eyes peeled for plenty more exciting announcements to come.
